How to Get Rid of New Jersey Ants – Ant Extermination in NJ

New Jersey ants are tiny scavengers that are looking for moisture and food in your business or home. Ant infestation is the most common reported problem. Moldly or rotting wood can attract ants. They also eat grease, peanut butter, vegetables, meats, cheese, sugar, and dead insects. Ants can find numerous entrances to your business or home through cracks in the windows and around doors. A growing ant colony can quickly become a major problem as they mature from juveniles to adults in a matter of days.

How to Kill Ants in NJ – Extermination in New Jersey

You need to identify the species you are trying to exterminate in order to effectively get rid of ants in NJ. Flying ants or winged ants can easily be mistaken for termites which can lead to the wrong treatments in many instances. Termites' bodies are more uniform while ants have a very narrow thorax (mid-section).

The four ant species listed below are the most common in the United States.

  • Red Imported Fire Ants: Red ants vary in length from 1/8’’ to 3/8’’ and give painful stings. They construct large mounds for nests
  • Pavement Ants: Pavement ants are about 1/8’’ long and are capable of infesting a building. They generally make their nests in pavement grooves and cracks
  • Pharaoh Ants: Pharaoh ants are 1/16’’ long and are capable of transmitting Pseudomonas and Staphylococcus infections. They are commonly found in nursing homes, hospitals, restaurants, apartment buildings
  • Carpenter Ants: Carpenter Ants are about 5/8’’ long and tend to live in damp wood or damage solid wood when they remove it to build a nest.

Instead of widely applying treatment it is most effective when it is performed near the nest.
